You know it's been a while since you blogged - when the blogger page doesn't recognize you at first pass.
What a suprise...another blogless month. For those of you who have quit paying attention - I don't blame you. Content from me is like blood from a turnip these days....
Anyway, I had to write because I NEED TO GET SOME OF THIS DOWN! Life is busy - but slipping through my fingers. Selah.
So...what's happened. Well...the biggest news is the new job. I've left Providence and joined a local software company located in Oregon City. My pals Jenn and Dave work there - and so I thought I'd ditch my secure career in health care for the glamour of hi-tech. God....I must be insane. Ah, well - sometimes you've got to take a risk to grow.....and this sure feels like one. So, there's that.
Near the end of September, I decided to put together a screening of the film :"Ballot Measure 9" as a benefit for No on Constituational Ammedment 36. For all you newbies to the area, Ballot Measure 9 was a horribly devisive and poorly written Measure that sought to erode the civil liberties of gays and lesbians in Oregon. It was hateful and ugly, but in the end - Oregon pulled together and rejected it. 2004 has seen an attempt to bar gays and lesbians from marriage (as if that ever prevented them from getting together). If CA36 is passed, thousands of official marriages that happened this year would not be recognized as legitimate...and further delay the inevitable.
So....I've put together this screening as a benefit. I somehow managed to get future Portland mayor Tom Potter and activist Kathleen Saadat to attend and speak at a Q&A following the 7pm screening. Both are featured in the film - and should have some interesting insight into the event - as well as it's relationship to the current issues we'll be voting on. The event is this Wednesday (Oct 20th) at the Clinton Street Theater. I'm hoping people show....if only to fund a few more radio commercials for the No on 36 cause. To the three people who read this blog, please come if you are able. It's only ten bucks....
Along with this, I've been invited to a few other fundraisers for No on 36....the most exciting of which was the Portland premiere of "Tarnation" a wild personal biography partly produced by Gus Van Sant. Fame whore that I am, I jumped at the chance to attend - knowing that Gus would be there. The film and party were the best! Got to meet and talk with Gus a couple times - and shamelessly gave him my contact info at the Clinton....which I'm sure promptly became so much lint in his pocket. Still, it was great to see such creative energy throughout the event....I hope I can garner a small portion of that this week.
So...then there is the new job. I've been keeping a dairy at work to help maintain my sanity. Gone are the manic but manageable days at Providence. We are now in the Twilight Zone. Suffice it to say, I'm up to my neck in new information and process....I'll keep you posted.
Greer turned 9 months during this blogless period. He's close to ten now and getting ready to roll over us. Alexis is rehearsing for the season opener at the Portland Opera. Its great to see her mainstage - I only hope that we can weather the rehersal schedule.
Voted today.....and I bet you can't guess who for? Almost felt like having a cigarette after I put down the pen. I just hope it makes a difference. Four more years of this shite will be the end of me.
Alright....I'm late to bed again. Wife and child are asleep. More later.
