MI6 memo surfaces in Congress

The media may have taken a pass at the latest leaked bombshell memo from Britain, but House Dems are petitioning Bush for an explanation. My guess is that the Bush administration will say that it will not comment on "leaked" material, and the issue will expire without much further comment.

Ignore, deny and obfuscate will be the watchwords regarding this hot potato.

It's really amazing that this isn't receiving more attention. While the public may have been lulled into believing that the war is now about spreading democracy (as opposed to removing WMD), the complacency of the press regarding this new information is galling. After I first found out about the memo's release (last Friday), I did some poking around just to see if the network media had picked up. Nary a peep on the mainstream mojo wire.

So far, this stands as one of the most important unreported stories in recent memory. It has the potential to bring down this Teflon-coated Administration - assuming that the truth will stick.

  • The press in this country is totally worthless. Take the recently announced base closings--BRACs (Base Realignment and Closures). Sounds pretty good, as far as it goes. Consolidate missions, close redundant facilities, save the taxpayer some bucks. What the press never mentions is that overseas base construction costs dwarf the chicken-&$%# "savings" that comes out of the BRACs. I believe the Halliburton crowd is constructing something like 19 bases in Iraq alone. Wouldn't a concientious story about the BRACs also discuss the offsetting costs overseas as well? Don't look for it in our "free" press. These days Pravda (http://english.pravda.ru/) is a much better source of news than any of our conventional news outlets (and maybe always was, come to think of it).
