Family time and a rough patch...
Labor day come and gone.....sadly, not much of a vacation. I did get some family time - as my parents came down to keep my aunt company over the weekend. A trip with my folks/aunt to see my declining grandPapa on Friday....an impromptu Hamilton family gathering of holiday proportions on Saturday, and lunch with Mom, Dad, Dianne, Alex and Greer under the shady trees at Mt. Scott Park on Sunday afternoon.
Into this family weekend mix, there was the spector of health.....Alex had a painful abscese dealt with on Sunday morning - after a trip to urgent care. She said that the pain was worse than childbirth. Eek. Anyway....that's over with, but she has some followups to attend. Somehow, she made it thought the weekend in good shape - and is managing until her next appointment.
I've been doing all of the driving since Sunday - as the starter on our van died. We won't be able to fix it until this Friday, so until then - my Bug is the family coach. I love it when vehicles throw fits.....
Greer had a visit to the hospital today, due to a damaged toenail that appeared infected. The advice a nurse had given to us over the phone the night before - turned out to be the same advice that the doctor gave. Wash, soak, dry.... On top of all this, while I was at the doctors office, I noticed that one of Greer's front teeth is turning gray. So...he's got dental appointment coming soon....
Our little man is fast on his way to 3 years. Every day he continues to push and test his boundries. He continues to aborb new books, words and conversation at a suprising rate. He loves to howl at "My Neighbor Totoro" - and goes ballistic (every time) when the girl first plays with the magic animal. Now...if he was only more interested in potty training. Lately, he's been having issues sleeping through the night. More often than not (this week), he wants in our bed....usually around 2 or 3am. He's a sweet kid on the same journey with his mom and dad.....
Still no work at this point. I've been on a couple agency interviews, but nothing past the first round. I'm beating my resume into another form in the hopes that it attracts some new attention.
I'm looking forward to escaping to the Clinton this Friday to host a midnight screening of the little known creature-feature "The Crater Lake Monster". The CST has been busy this week - and the buzz is...that "Monster" might get some action as well. We'll see.
I've got a date with Bluto again....the 4th annual Animal House Celebration (i.e. Toga Party in a hotel) happens on the 23rd at the Eugene Hilton. They moved it away from Cottage Grove for a change - and it's happening after school starts....so we'll see if that boosts attendance. I'm actually putting together a toga party at the CST on the 15th - as way to kick some attention toward the event.
I'm trying to gather a few brave souls to attend the Eugene gig....currently have one to drive down with...
Previous to the past few days, I attended the wedding of an old friend with whom I've recently reconciled and reconnected. It's good to have him back, as we still share the same sense of dark humor. We ran into each other in the bathroom after the service and immediately started cracking up about some old inside jokes we hadn't aired in a while. During that same weekend, we stayed with Alex's folks and went out to a sandcastle contest - as well as NW Trek - a regional wildlife refuge/park. Good times.
Anyway....I'm sure there is more to come....just not right at the moment...
