Silent Running...

Psst....to all three of you who read this blog...

As of two days ago, our new pub has quietly opened for business. That's right....you can now grab a brew with your fine independent movie selection. The initial response has been great, and we're looking forward to a nice under-the-radar opening buzz.

As for my prediction about Popaganda....looks like I was a little off. Despite good reviews in the Oregonian, Willamette Week and Portland Mercury - things have been pretty quiet at the B.O. It's really a shame....as this is one of the cooler documetaries we've had in a while. With that in mind, anyone who hasn't seen it yet should really give it a look.

Called it...

Jeez....that was fast.

It didn't take more than a couple days of good attendance before "We Jam Econo" got extended another week. Got the news on Sunday night, so things must be boffo. What's funny is it isn't really sharing the second week. It owns the second week. "Candy Snatchers" - for all it's exploitative goodness - has been wedged into the late slot of 10:45 - after two screenings of "Econo".

Such is gloriously flexible schedule of the Clinton....

Also...the pub is "almost there" - in a Star-Wars-flying-down-the-Death-Star-trench kind of sense. I know, I know....it's been that way for a while. But after a recent visit, I noticed some finishing touches that denote the end of the waiting. Here's hoping we're good to go before the end of June...

Strong line-up for June

I have to say...the marquee for June looks pretty tight. Aside from a good week with "Lebowski" - we are following up with the Portland premiere of "We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen" which is getting solid reviews, and looks to be our first holdover of the summer.

Following that, we have a revival of the 1973 exploitation flick "The Candy Snatchers" - which will probably be sharing the bill with "Econo".

Then it gets even more interesting....as we screen the first Portland theatrical run of "Popaganda: The Art and Crimes of Ron English" - which also has the potential for holdover status. Finally, the month wraps up with "McLibel" - which I suspect might be double-billed with a holdover of "Popaganda". Both films have a strong bend toward corportate subversion - and would be a great pairing.

The Dude Strikes back!

I managed to escape home for a spell to catch a Thursday 11pm screening of The Big Lebowski (complete with possum hunting in the asles) that made me wonder how well it would do.

Apparently, fans of "The Dude" came out of the woodwork for this one, as it's had a solid run this past week.

The Dude abides....
